How we're paid

The carriers pay us. That shapes what we can show you.

We earn a commission from the insurer when you enrol, and nothing from you. It does not change your premium. It does mean our shelf has edges, and it means an incentive exists that you should know about rather than guess at.

What you pay us
Nothing. Your premium is identical whether you enrol through us, through another agent, or directly with the carrier. Premiums are filed with regulators and carry no agent mark-up, so there is nothing to negotiate and nobody who can negotiate it.
What the carrier pays us
A commission when a policy is placed, and in most lines a smaller renewal commission while it stays in force. That second part is worth knowing: it means we have an interest in you still being happy with the plan next year, not only in the sale.
Where the incentive bites
We can only be paid on the carriers we are appointed with. If the best plan for you sits with a carrier we do not represent, we do not earn from telling you so — which is exactly why we publish the free alternatives on seven pages of this site rather than in a footnote.
What we do not do
We do not buy lead lists, we do not sell your details, and we do not run a follow-up campaign against people who declined. Lists of people approaching Medicare eligibility are actively traded; we do not participate in that market in either direction.

Six things we commit to

Published so you can hold us to them.

We tell you when a free route is better

If Medicare.gov, a SHIP counsellor or HealthCare.gov suits you better than anything we can sell, we say so on the first call rather than after.

We name the edges of our shelf

We will tell you which carriers we are appointed with, and therefore which plans we cannot show you.

You get a name and a licence number

Not a queue, not a department. The agent handling your case identifies themselves and you can verify them.

We do not cold-call

If you have not asked us to contact you, a call claiming to be from us is not from us.

We never ask for sensitive numbers by phone or form

No Social Security number, no Medicare number, no bank details. There is no upload on this site.

No follow-up campaign if you walk away

Declining is a complete answer. It does not put you on a list.

What you are entitled to ask

  • The name and licence number of the agent handling your case.
  • Which carriers we are appointed with, and which we cannot quote.
  • Whether a plan we are recommending pays us more than an alternative we are also showing you.
  • What we did not show you, and why.

Licence and producer numbers are available on request, and you are entitled to verify them with your state department of insurance.

What an agent can and cannot see →

You may not need an agent at all

These services are free, independent, and will show you every plan in your area — including plans we cannot sell. If your situation is simple, they may be all you need.

We list these because the alternative is you finding out later. If you call us and a free route fits better, that is what we will tell you.

Talk to a licensed agent, not a call centre

One agent handles your case from the first call. We'll walk your options and tell you plainly what we can and cannot see.

No obligation. We'll tell you if a free option through Medicare.gov or HealthCare.gov suits you better. Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm ET.
